President: Elizabeth Geary, M.Ed., LMSW

Betsy is Director of The Community Programs Center of L.I., a not-for-profit agency that provides Intergenerational Day Care Services. 

Betsy holds Master’s Degrees from Boston College and Hunter College School of Social Work and has worked to develop and expand adult day services programs since 1992.  At Day Haven Adult Day Services on Long Island, Betsy directs her efforts and experience to providing high quality care to frail older adults and those with Alzheimer’s.   Equally important, is her vision of providing  supportive services to the family caregivers who provide essential support to those the adult day services program directly serves.   She is continually seeking opportunities to enhance adult day services, to ensure high quality, affordable and accessible programs for residents across the 62 counties of New York State. 


Vice President: Christopher Nadeau

Christopher Nadeau is the Executive Director of New York Memory Center; a nationally recognized community based non-profit organization providing innovative approaches to care for adults and their caregivers living with a memory disorder.  Mr. Nadeau has a background that includes Mental Health and Non-profit Administration, Health Psychology, Public Health Policy and Health Education.  

 Mr. Nadeau received a M.S degree from the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and a United Way Senior Fellowship at the City University of New York, Baruch College School of Public Affairs.  Mr. Nadeau focuses his attention on the development of new methods of providing secondary and tertiary preventative care for adults in need of Social Adult Day Care, and in the provision of support services for caregivers.  He serves on Committees for the National Coalition on Aging Health Promotion Institute, New York State Adult Day Services Association, Brooklyn Caregiver Resource Committee, and is a Board Member of SUNY/Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center.    

 Previously, Mr. Nadeau was a consultant to the nursing home industry, carrying out palliative care education, and assisting in the analysis of the New York State Health Care Reform Act of 2002.  He is an expert in the area of Palliative Care, having spoken at various national, regional and local conferences; his efforts seek to educate health professionals on the importance of up-streaming palliative care principles earlier in the trajectory of chronic care treatment.  Additionally, he was a Policy Analyst with the National Mental Health Association where he supported a 12 State cross-disability coalition on preserving access to psychotropic medications. 

 Mr. Nadeau served as a Congressional Aide in the U.S. House of Representatives 106th Congress where he assisted with advocacy efforts in support of the Norwood/Dingel Patient Bill of Rights.  

 Mr. Nadeau is the co-author of “Penny Wise and Pound Foolish: Restricting Access to Psychotropic Medications. A State Advocacy Guide,” published by the National Mental Health Association.  He is a regular contributor to the blog, NYC Senior Care. 

 Mr. Nadeau lives with his wife Carolyn in Smithtown, New York. 


Treasurer: Rebecca Carel

Rebecca Carel has been the Executive Director of Riverstone Senior Life Services (formerly Fort Washington Houses Services for the Elderly) in northern Manhattan since 1988.  Riverstone is a multi-service organization that focuses on older people and the people who care for them.  Its bilingual Adult Day Services program for people with dementia began operating in 1987 with a Brookdale Center on Aging respite grant and moved into large, specifically designed space in 2010.

 Ms. Carel has been involved in aging services since 1980 and with NYSADSA since 1988.  She is currently the treasurer of NYSADSA.  She has an MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work and an MBA from Baruch College, City University.
